Trust In the Lord

IMG_4749

Proverbs 3: 5-6

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths. It sounds so simple, just trust in the Lord, don’t lean on your own understanding… but so often, we “trust” in the things we see, the things we hear, the things we feel… When you are told that your position is being eliminated at work or that a family member has a terminal illness, it is easy to get caught up in worry and anxiousness. We start wondering what we are going to do, we start to scramble trying to figure out how things will work out, or how we can “help” fix things.

It is in these times that the Lord whispers in that still small voice… “just trust in me with ALL your heart.” It will not be easy, and there may be times when you will doubt and question whether God is really there for you, but rest assured… our God is faithful, He has a great plan for us, and as we rest in Him, He will bring you through each and every situation.

The Lord will always provide what we have need of, WHEN we need it. His timing is perfect, He is not early, He is not late, He is always on time. As we trust in Him and see Him provide and deliver time and time again, it will become easier to rest knowing that no matter how big the waves, no matter how dark the storm, no matter how loud the thunder, Jesus is there with us, holding us up in His loving hands, and He will direct our path. Be blessed and find rest today.

Where To Lean

IMG_4512

Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your path.

Growing up there was a popular song by Bill Withers where the chorus was… “Lean on me, when you’re not strong, and I’ll be your friend, I’ll help you carry on… for it won’t be long, till I’m going to need somebody to lean on…” While these words may be true from time to time, the only one who will ALWAYS be there for you is Jesus! In Proverbs we are told that if we will trust in the Lord with all our heart, He will be there and He will direct our path.

We will go through peaks and valleys in our lives, and it is good to know that when we are walking through those valleys, the Lord is always there and He never fails. Sometimes He may be hard to see or His voice hard to hear, but He is that still small voice, He is the light at the end of the tunnel. Remember it is always darkest before the morning, Jesus will NEVER fail, He is the one you can always count on. Be blessed this week and trust in Him with all your heart!

He’s Alive

th-10

Matthew 28:5-6

And the angel answered and said to the women, Fear not: I know you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for He has risen, as He said.

Jesus died on the cross for our sins and when He rose again, He made a way for us to have eternal life with God our Father. The law was given to show us that there is not way for us to live by the law, no matter how hard we try, we will ultimately fail. The only way to be saved is through a relationship with Jesus Christ. It has never been, nor ever will be about religion or belonging to the “right church or denomination”. We are saved by the blood of Jesus Christ which was shed for us.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son… Jesus came to earth in the form of a man so that He could make a way for us to be saved from our sins, past, present, and future. He has been through everything that we will ever experience, He knows what it is to be betrayed, He knows what it is to feel abandoned, He knows and understands our deepest hurts and despair, and He went through it all to make a way for us to live eternally with God our Father.

There will be things that you go through that you don’t understand; there will be times where it seems so dark that there is no hope; but be assured, Jesus is there, God is faithful, He will always make a way of escape, He will always be there with you. Where will I go from your Spirit? If I ascend into heaven, you are there: if I make my bed in hell, behold you are there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; even there will your hand lead me, and your right hand will hold me. If I say, surely the darkness will cover me; even the night will be light about me – Psalm 139

Remember we serve a risen Savior, and He rose, so that we might live eternally with Him!

Light of the World

IMG_2136

John 8:12

Then Jesus spoke again to them saying, I am the light of the world; he that follows me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. You have probably heard the saying, it is always darkest before the morning. Jesus promises us that as we follow after Him, we will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life. His love is amazing and unending… in our darkest trials, in our deepest despair, He is there to comfort us and guide us through.

The light reveals the beauty that surrounds us and shows us the way. When you enter a room at night, all you have to do to dispel the darkness it to flick the light switch and the room is filled with light. If you put your trust in Jesus, He will give you life everlasting and fill you with His peace. We may not understand the reasons why we go through the things we do, but we can rest knowing that He is holding us up in His hands. Be blessed today and take time to reflect on the beauty that surrounds you.

Facing the Giants

th-9

1 Samuel 17

Many people know the story of David and Goliath; the general theme of the story has been used in countless illustrations and movies. Coaches have used the story to encourage their teams, and we have probably all heard stories of people who have overcome tremendous obstacles to achieve success.

As you reflect on this portion of scripture, remember that God has a plan for you! He is calling you to make a stand for Him. When you have the Lord, you have nothing to fear. David was just a teenager when he faced Goliath. Goliath was a giant among men, a seasoned warrior who struck fear in those that faced him. But David had boldness because he had seen the Lord work in his life on many occasions previously. He KNEW that God would be with him and would give him the victory… that is why he was able to look at Goliath and say “You come to me with a sword, spear, and shield; but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel… and this day will the Lord deliver you into my hand…”  David wore no armor, he had no shield or sword… he had a sling and some stones… but most importantly, he had the God of all creation with him.

If you are facing giants today, remember that the Lord is with you. If you cling to Him, He will never leave you, nor forsake you. His ways are not our ways, but His plan is ALWAYS perfect and will provide all that you have need of. Be blessed, be at peace, and have a great week!

Sower and the Seed

th-7

Matthew 13:3-9

Behold, a sower went forth to sow; and when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the birds came and devoured them up. Some fell upon stoney places, where they had a little dirt: and they sprouted, but because there was not enough dirt, the sun came up and scorched the sprout because it didn’t have roots they withered away. Some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up and choked them. But others fell on good ground, and brought forth fruit; some a hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold. He has ears to hear, let him hear.

Jesus shared this parable illustrating the potential of how we receive the good news of Christ. God offers us salvation through His son, all we have to do is accept His invitation. Every time you hear about the gospel, seeds are being sown. The question is, how do you receive it? For some, they hear about the love of Christ and God’s desire to love them, and they want nothing to do with God. The Word falls by the way side and never has a chance to sprout.

For others, they hear the gospel and they are interested, but as soon as they face the “heat” of the world, their interest evaporates and they turn away. Some are caught up with everything the world has to offer… and the cares of the world; their career, that new car or house, choke out the good news.

For some, the good news resonates within their heart and they accept Him to be their Lord and Savior. There will still be storms, there will still be trials, but knowing that God is on the throne and in control of every situation keeps them close and they experience great growth and produce fruit. What is that fruit? Showing the love of Christ to others. God desires to transform our hearts and give us eternal life with Him. All we have to do is accept His invitation… let your heart be that fertile soil where His Word can take root and grow. You will be AMAZED!

Salt & Light

Matthew 5:13-16

You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has lost its savour, then how will it be salted? It is therefore good for nothing, but to be cast out, and trodden under the foot of men. You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it gives light to all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Salt is a preserving agent and it adds flavor. We are told here that as believers, we are the salt of the earth. We are to share the gospel and bring life to a lost and dying world. We are to be a light to the world, allowing the love of Jesus to shine in and through us to others. Like the city set on the hill, there should be no doubt that we are followers of Christ. As people see us, may they see the work that Jesus has done in us and be drawn to Him. How will  your light shine today? How will you add flavor to those around you?

Finding Rest

IMG_0887

Matthew 11:28-30

Come unto me, all you that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly of heart: and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Are you feeling overwhelmed, pulled in every direction, stressed out? Does everything around you seem to be piling up and is more than you can bear? Jesus tells us that we just need to come to Him and He will give us rest. In the time of Jesus, a yoke was a wooden beam used between a pair of oxen or other animals to enable them to pull together on a load. Jesus tells us that He wants to partner with us and have us learn about Him. As we accept His partnership, He will stand beside us and pull together with us making our burden light. Trust in Him today… allow Him to give you comfort and rest.

Psalm 1:1-3

Blessed is the man that walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, or stands in the way of sinners, or sits in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in His law does he meditate day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth fruit in his season; his leaf shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.

For a tree to thrive it must be firmly rooted… when it is planted by the river, it has the opportunity to grow and flourish. We are to be planted by river of living water. As we do, we will draw our strength from Him and we shall prosper. This does not mean that you will be wealthy or have anything you want materially… it is referring to our spiritual life. We will still face difficult times and hardships, but when we have the Spirit of God refreshing our soul, our spirits shall prosper beyond measure.
